Ellen Greggio is the latest addition to the growing mWater team. She’s coming over from WaterAid UK where she’s had extensive experience in supporting government-led WASH monitoring (MIS development, data collection and analysis etc) and data use for planning and budgeting, aiming to ensure sustainable WASH services.

She is an environmental engineer from Italy and has experience in working with water utilities across multiple regions to support water innovation uptake and efficiency improvements. Key focuses at mWater will be to support utilities and governments in better WASH data management and data using a variety of mWater platform capacities.

What are you looking forward to in working as part of the mWater team?

I look forward to meeting, working and learning from partners across the world who want to implement improvements to water (and other) services management through better data.

What are the top 3 challenges facing the world in trying to deliver sustainable WASH?

1. The lack of data on WASH services, assets - without data services can not be managed effectively.

2. The tendency to forget about long term maintenance of WASH services. Without clear responsibilities, processes and resources WASH services will continue to fail at the rate they have until now.

3 . Financial resources! WASH is still an under-invested sector for the value it brings to society! there is a gap in finance and also key blockages in financial flow and its absorption.

How do you think mWater can help the WASH sector?

mWater can help improve data-driven decision making at all levels - from water supply operations to national level planning and budgeting - by collecting relevant and timely data and presenting it in a useful and understandable way for different users.
